Hi, I've been trying for a long time to get my mic working now. Neither external nor integrated work.. Been using both KDE and Gnome (Gnome atm).
First, a little info about my audio device..:

I've been through Alsamixer, Sound Preferences ad Volume Control.. I uploaded a pic of important settings (I think). You can see all the settings from Alsamixer in the pic, but the Volume Control also has:
Recording: Capture (volume on), Capture 1 (off), Capture 2 (off), Digital (on)
Switches: IEC958 (not checked), Caller ID (not checked), Off-hook (not checked)
Options: 3 input source "dropdownmenus". All uses "mic", other options are: front mic, line, CD.
I'm using Gnomes default audio recording program (gnome-sound-recorder). It displays no error messages. I can also hear some buzz in my headphones if I turn the volume of the mic up.

I don't have the excact same settings as you.. Uploaded a picture of mine. Tried to record while Alsamixer was up and on the record tab. Still no sound.
EDIT: Ops, I misunderstood:P Give me a second to try it..
Alright, a little improvement. I put "capture" on "Capture", then set "Record from input" to "Capture". When recording, there's not absolute quiet anymore. I can hear some sort of wind/buzz.. The bad thing though, is that if I turn the mic off, it's the same sound..
The options in "Record from input" is: Capture, Capture 1, Capture 2, Digital.

put "capture" on one of the mic. try them out and see what mic is active from those 3. try to make to look like mine:). "capture" on the mic
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

I haven't been able to get my mic working at all either. I don't even get a capture level in alsamixer. I have a creative soundblaster 4. I have had it working before with other distros and also arch but it stopped working months ago. There isn't much on the wiki or forums about this though, I assumed I alone had these kinds of problems.

I suppose that's because of an ALSA upgrade.. I wonder if changing the sound server to PulseAudio will have any effect? Or is this is a problem from Intel? I'll try Ubuntu 8.04 when it's released though, which ships with PulseAudio.
