Hey there,
I just found out, that my german OpenOffice version of writer (2.3.1) doesn't seem to have the ability to save a document with a password. The help pages tell that the option is supposed to be found under "save as..." and a check box (save with password). But it's not there.
A second help entry says, that one can only use a password when saving under the fileextension xml but I hardly doubt that.
Another way I tried was to go to Extras -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> Security and hit the button at the very end of this tab (secure? It's "schützen" in German) to secure the doc with a password. Unfortunately, after clicking on it and typing in a password (twice), confirming, closing and re-opening the document again, there's no password request and the doc opens just like that (so what is the password for anyway?).
Do I have to tick another option or have I just configured writer wrongly? I am using arch 2.6.23 and installed openoffice from the repository.
I am glad for any help. Thanks for it in advance!
Micha

I'm using OO 2.4 prerelease from testing and it works there.

This seems to be a translation error. You need to check "nur lesen" (meaning: read only) which isn't quite the label you would expect for passwordprotection.

Hey, thanks gothmog.todi, I am both happy that it is working and that it wasn't me being stupid!
Now I just have to find out who to email for the translation error to get fixed in the next version... If you have a tip, let me know.
Thanks anyway again!
