Baffled by stepmania issues

I give up, after trying to get StepMania to work in one form or another for 3 days, I'm out of things to try.

My issues:
* With the binary from stepmania.com, ./stepmania outputs "bash: ./stepmania: No such file or directory", even though I'm ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE the binary is there. This happens with the 3.9 version and the 4.0 cvs version, and happens in both my arch64 install and my chrooted arch32 install.
* Downloading the source from stepmania.com, both 3.9 and 4.0, also in both my arch64 and chrooted arch32, gives me:

../../src/InputQueue.h: In constructor 'InputQueueCode::ButtonPress::ButtonPress()':
../../src/InputQueue.h:35: error: 'memset' was not declared in this scope
make[2]: *** [Screen.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/archlucas/sources/stepmania4/src/stepmania-build/_build/src'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/archlucas/sources/stepmania4/src/stepmania-build/_build/src'
make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
Building StepMania...failed.
Consider passing --verbose to Utils/build.sh. Pass --help for details.

The AUR packages for 3.9 and 4.0 do the same thing.
* I managed to compile a 3.9 in arch64 before this whole mess, it crashes randomly when playing songs, when it crashes, I'm dropped back to my desktop with the mouse cursor unresponsive, the keyboard works, but the mouse doesn't, so I have to reset X with ctrl+alt+backspace.
* I managed to compile a 3.9 in arch32 a while ago, it only works with the alsa-sw driver, the sound is crackly, and it stopped working a few days ago, it doesn't run and marks my audio as busy, nothing will play sound any more until I reboot.
* I managed to compile a 4.0 in arch64 a while ago, it semi-works, crashes when going to song options, so I'm stuck in 2x mode.

Please, someone help me, these seemingly random problems are making no sense whatsoever (why the hell could I compile it before, but not now >_>)

Yes, I did fiddle around with the nvidia drivers during the process, before (this was while stepmania was still compiling), I was using the official -pkg.run text installer from nvidia.com (also, it was the 169.07 version, 169.12 had problems (fan was noisy, I solved it by unplugging the fan, I don't do a whole lot of graphics intensive stuff anyway, and the nvidia control panel says it's steady at 55°C, with a slowdown threshold of 115)), it was giving me big 3d problems, so I installed the nvidia package from the repos, I think this was when stepmania stopped compiling, although the crashes happened before it.

EDIT:

Ok, fixed it by downloading the old gcc and compiling 4.0 with that, 3.9 still crashes though, but I suspect it's an ffmpeg issue.
