[solved]how do i stop my screen suspending when x is killed?

im running kde on top of arch, but when ever x is killed, my screen suspends, i can type startx and the screen will kick in again, or ctrl+alt+del, and it will reboot, but id like to be able to work on the system after killing x!

could it be to do with the fact im using the proprietery nvidia drivers for my graphics card??

any idea how to fix it?

thanks
