incredible cairo-compmgr (configure with cairo-compmgr --configure)
It gives animating windows, fades between desktops, transparent window boarders, shadows .... in Openbox
It also give an expose type thingy...
I also discovered this website that gives instructions on how to make a keyboard command happen when you put the cursor into the screen corner - even more expose.
You need xautolock and xautomation from AUR. I didn't install skippy as per the website, I just used the expose command from xcairo-compmgr. It doesn't work perfectly but its fun.

My old DT is now free for some (ab)use, so I've plonked openbox on it for a play. I've done minimalism on my netbook so I'm going for chunky usability for a change.

Just got everything working yesterday.
Very quick setup, but I thought I would share it with you guys anyways. More awesomeness to come later :-)

@ Firepower
mind sharing your ob-theme (with changes)? and what gtk-theme do you use?
Like it very much!

I have uploaded the modded theme here.
The gtk is Fundamental Round 2 (Blue), with minor changes in the gtkrc for colours.

My favorite black cat is named Premoutos. The wallpaper is not a picture of Premutos (I cannot make such a good picture), it's from :
http://www.unesourisetmoi.info/
The picture is at:
http://www.unesourisetmoi.info/wallpape … -noir.html
[edit]Premutos is much more beautiful: A really long and imposing nose, incredibly long moustaches and a stronger gaze. Not one ounce of fat, pure muscles.[/edit]
Premutos has a daughter named Braindead. She's a black cat as well, of course. https://store.puscifer.com/
I'll try to get a hold on some lighting and backscreen to take a good picture of both of them and make it my next theme...

anyone know how to remove the title from the client-list-combined-menu? i find it unnecessary.
here is a screenshot from my design machine (formerly my HTPC):
photo is from flickr. theme is custom. using urxvt. very small conky config in the top right. i dont use a panel at all.. i do it all with the combined client list menu. everything is assigned to hotkeys and my most used apps are in the root menu.. everything else is launched with dmenu.

I'm running LXDE which is just Openbox + pcmanfm-git + lxpanel. Simple but it's great.

Was running full gnome this morning. Now using openbox XD.
I still have gnome installed but use slim instead of the GDM.
Parts of my openbox setup rely on gnome but hopefully I will be able to slowly phase this out over time.
I am using nautilus as my file manager right now but that may change to thunar soon.
Anyways, screenshots:
(I know my IP's in it, its dynamic, and has change by now.)
Using the following:
tint2, conky, rhythmbox desktop-art plugin, parcellite, Dropbox, obmixer.

[Using a link without a thumbnail to avoid Javascript rubbish. The image is SFW, insofar as anything not work-related is SFW.]
Openbox with tint2, background managed by feh. tint2 config is just the default with the battery monitor enabled.
Theme is rain-theme. Icons are the default Tango set. Wallpaper is called Stand Alone and is like my favorite desktop picture ever.
Rox handles file management and mounting/unmounting drives (via fstab). I also have a menu entry that points it to /usr/share/applications/ so it can act as a launcher - I find this is quicker than mousing through a pipe menu, and also helps with the drag-and-drop thing. I use perl-file-mimeinfo to handle file associations (all filetype categories are associated with 'mimeopen -n'). For changing them, I just stuck a script containing 'nohup xterm -e mimeopen -d $@' in the Send To folder - sending a file to it will bring up a terminal with mimeopen's selection dialog.
Power management is handled with pm-utils, sudo, and an Openbox submenu. slock locks the screen; dmenu can be invoked with Win+p. Netcfg handles the network stuff.
All told it works quite well. The only major usability issue is Rox's inability to overwrite files en masse, which should probably be done with cp anyway.
