i915 - VLC (or other player) - Compiz - GL output - Black boxes blink

Hi,

I am new at Arch and I like it so far.
I have installed kdemod, compiz, I am using the intel video driver (I tried also with the old i810 driver though).. my problem is the following:

the GL output module in VLC is the one that gives better quality (although not perfect) in video reproduction.  Unfortunately, when playing a movie in fullscreen I have some black boxes of various sizes, usually wider than higher, that appear on the lower part of the screen, let's say at 1/3 of the screen height from the bottom. They keep on appearing and disappearing, blinking, and it is very annoying while you are watching a movie. The problem is not present with the same settings in Ubuntu Gutsy (of course different version of the X-server).

If I use the option

Option "MIT-SHM" "no"

in xorg.conf I am able to use also the X11 output module in VLC (it crashes without that option, it seems a known problem, I found the workaround on another thread) but the result is REALLY poor!! (very poor resolution, pixelated).
Any idea on how to solve this problem?
Thank you very much.
