Hi,
I am confused about setting up Pidgin to allow Hotmail email box to open in Firefox.... do I need to edit prefs?
Help! :-)

Setting the default browser used to be possible from within Pidgin itself, but in recent versions it now uses Gnome's default preferences. If you go into Pidgin's Tools menu -> Preferences -> Network Tab, at the bottom it'll give you the option to change Gnome's default browser preferences.
Or, just use the gnome-default-applications-properties command.

Tried your method from Pidgin tools but it [even adding custom command!] does not work will take a look at gnome-preferences ... may be a path issue
Thanks for your help ;-)
EDIT tried both ways nothing... can anyone tell me if they have this working at all with pidgin?

Hmm, it turns out that the default browser options available from within Pidgin depend on what DE you're using. Using Gnome, it uses Gnome's default prefs. If you're not using Gnome (which would seem to be the case) my previous advice was completely useless...
In all other DEs, however, whatever is set in the Browser tab should work (and indeed, does for me in both KDE3 and 4). I recommend starting Pidgin on the command-line with the --debug option and seeing what happens when you try to open the Hotmail inbox.

thats good point I will test it out [I do use gnome btw!]
Error showing url: There was an error launching the default action command associated with this location.emmm
Seems to be an xdg-open issue... if it tries to open firefox you get the error above
Double weird Pidgin does allow Yahoo mailbox to open in Firefox !!!!!
Not sure how to fix that one [I not that clever!]
