Hi folks!
There are some discrepancies between what is written in the Beginner's Guide, and what appears on my screen after I have typed /arch/setup/
I need help with the step "Configure the system" after I have chosen the text editor (nano). Perhaps some of you can offer any insight.
I get a screen with "Configuration" and a list enabling me to select highlighted lines starting with etc/rc.conf, etc/fstab, etc/mkinitcpio.conf and so on. The guide explains a bit what rc.conf is about, but when I select /etc/rc.conf and the nano text editor shows up, I don't understand what to do.
Nano says I am viewing /mnt/etc/rc.conf, but there is no text, only a bunch of command options listed down at the bottom. The "LOCALIZATION" section explained in the guide is nowhere to be found. So what do I have to do in order to configure the different steps, like setting eth0=dhcp and so on?

This has happened to me before. I didn't bother to figure out what the problem was. Generally when things like that happen to me...it was because the cd was corrupted, scratched etc. But also, what speed did you burn the iso at? If you did it as like 40x....try burning it at a slower speed. For whatever reason this helps with install disks for some people. Last but not least, double check to make sure you have things partitioned correctly.
Other than that, all I can say is, try again.

So, to make sure I have understood you right, a text with configuration should be visible in nano without having to search for a file to open and edit? (when selecting /etc/rc.config from the setup menu). If that is true, I am gonna try to download archlinux again, as I have burned it twice now.
My partitions are:
sda1 -- My windows partition
sda2-- compaq recovery partition
sda4-- primary linux bootable ext3 partition
sda5-- logical linux non-bootable flag ext3 partition (didn't get the option to make it primary)
sda6-- linux swap
sda7-- Fat32 partition with my stuff on it.
What would I have done wrong here? I set sda4 as my mountpoint.

try to burn it as slow as you can, this is a common thing with install disks. i had to burn my first sabayon-linux-dvd with 2.4x and also i had to fire up mx cpu-fan to 100 % otherwise the installation crashed.

Yep, there definately should be text in all of the configuration files presented.
Whatever program you're using to burn, set the speed to as low as possible (preferably 1x). I don't think it's a mountpoint issue, definately to do with the install CD. You might wanna try the newer iso's too. They are still being tested but seem to be pretty reliable. It'll save you bout 100MB of updates after install: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45897

Thank u very much. I might have to get back to you if I still can't do it.
EDIT: It looks as if you were right. I downloaded arch again and burnt it. /mnt/etc/rc.conf shows up as described.
And I thought I was just being incredibly stupid not understanding the install cd, then it was obviously corrupt.. lol
Thx a lot.
