OpenOffice Menus

After updating to openoffice 2.4 my menu borders disappeared.
Any ideas?

Re: OpenOffice Menus

Same here. Also the toolbars seem to have some redraw issues - some separators as well as the toolbar itself has some missing borderlines in some cases. I think the 2.3 version didn't even have these thick borders around the toolbar ... it looks as if it doesn't fit into the desktop environment anymore (and yes, I did try setting OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP, but it didn't change anything).

Re: OpenOffice Menus

also hovering mouse over pull down arrows (important, otherwise will not "work") of fonts menu, font size menu and style menu wipes out font name, size and style name

Hehe, well at least your menus are dropping down in the right place, unlike mine lol
Need to download OOo 2.4 and see if that fixes it...

Re: OpenOffice Menus

You can use other styles too and there is no problem. I now use clearlooks and I'm fine.

Re: OpenOffice Menus

I have the same problem.  It seems to be related to the Qt or KDE style (I'm using plastik).  In "GTK Styles and Fonts", when I select "Use another style: Raleigh", the borders in OpenOffice.org 2.4 come back (after restarting it, of course).  But, that's not a solution either.

Re: OpenOffice Menus

Just for a matter of information, with compiz it doesn't show this behavior. When I switch to kwin it shows. I also use the gtk-qt engine.

Re: OpenOffice Menus

For those who's got the menu borders back, do you get something like that :
ooosnap1kj0.th.jpg
with black color to the right and bottom borders and white to the left and top borders ?
I would like to know if the appearance in the screenshot is good, thanks for telling me.

I downgraded to OpenOffice 2.3.1 (the package was still in /var/cache/pacman/pkg, then use pacman -U <pkgname>).  The menus in 2.3.1 seem to match your screenshot.

Re: OpenOffice Menus

Well, i guess my borders are ok, but everything from menu and toolbars disappear when i pass the mouse over them:
snapshot4us2.th.jpg
Yeah, the gtk style stuff fixes it, but isn't there a better way to deal with this?

This is what I had to do too (or use the Raleigh style).

Re: OpenOffice Menus

I have my icons disappearing after upgrading to OOo 2.4, as well. I downgraded to 2.3.1 and the problem went away - but it isn't the real solution.

I think we should..However, I am bit reluctant to do that myself because it seems to be KDE related and I am using KDEmod...:/

Re: OpenOffice Menus

i have the same problem as reported by decimal

it seems OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=kde does nothing at all.

after a search openoffice variable environment, i found http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wik … _Variables
and now use
export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde in my ~/.bashrc

it was working fine during 3 days and all of a sudden it does NOT. after i installed a dictionnary package from extra.
i removed everything $HOME/.openoffice.org2 /opt/openoffice all openoffice package and reinstall them.
still the same problem until i unset SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN.

so try it but it may fail for you.

i still don't understand why it was working fine during 2 days and now it fails ...

Re: OpenOffice Menus

Oh no! Such a silly bug... I am running KDE4 and OpenOffice does not even start if I use native KDE themes. Raleigh *works* (but is ugly as hell). I am glad KOffice is slowly coming along...

Re: OpenOffice Menus

My issue has been with OpenOffice menus and icons. They draw on the screen then disappear until you mouse over one of them. With the mouse over a menu item or icon it will show up. After much googling, I've simply decided to uninstall gtk-qt-engine and deal with the ugliness. I need to actually use openoffice. The gtk themes do me no good as the only two GTK programs I usually use are swiftfox and openoffice, the two apps that don't use the system gtk libs (or something like that).

BTW...kdemod with compiz, using Plastik window decorations and kdemod-gtk-qt-engine. (If anyone cares...)

The new version (2.4.1) solves the issue. Finally...

Re: OpenOffice Menus

Anyone else seeing this bug again with kdemod3 and openoffice-base 3.0.0-3?  This fix so far is to "Use another style: Raleigh".

I've heard reports that my former laptop which is running KDEMod legacy and OO.org 3 is suffering from this. I can't get my hands on the computer for a couple of weeks, so I can't see what's happening.
