[SOLVED] Arch in VirtualBox, screen resolution problem

Hi everybody,

I have installed Archlinux in a VirtualBox, and it works nicely, except for the screen resolution.

I have a 1280x800 laptop screen, and I can't get the whole resolution working. I have Gnome running 1024x768, and when I try to change to 1280x800, the image gets scrambled (sort of canal plus undecoded image, if you know what I mean). Funny enough, in the test seconds (with the image scrambled in the superior half of the screen), I can move the cursor without problems through the whole screen.

The VBox add-ons are installed, and the loaded driver is the one of virtualbox (already checked).
The settings of xorg.conf seem to be correct at all points (I was not sure about the frequencies for the monitor, but I copied them from another VBox image running PCLinuxOS where everything works fine. It didn't make any difference, although I had tried also other settings).

I don't know what else to try. Can somebody help me?

Re: [SOLVED] Arch in VirtualBox, screen resolution problem

Well, no answers, so I had to do the research myself ;-)

I checked the xorg.conf file of another virtualized linux (PCLinuxOS), which was working correctly. After checking all the differences and trying them one at a time, I got this problem solved. What did the trick was to change the lines like:
        Modes "1024x768" "1280x800"

to

        Modes "1280x800" "1024x768"

(Or simply removing the  "1024x768" resolution). In this way X starts correctly at  1280x800, and it allows me to change to 1024x768 and back. I still don't know why, but it works.
