XFCE and KDE question

Would there be any conflicts if XFCE and KDE were both installed at the same time or would it be wiser to remove KDE before installing XFCE?

Re: XFCE and KDE question

You'll probably be fine. Both programs can edit desktop files which can effect the other. I'm not sure how KDE handles mime types though. If it uses the same database, that could cause one to effect the other.

Re: XFCE and KDE question

I have had annoying problems with duplicate trashcans, /home folder icons, etc. YMMV.

Re: XFCE and KDE question

I'm personally not a big fan of mixing desktop environments on the same system for reasons such as that list by Misfit138.  You will eventually run into weird problems and annoyances because of it.

Re: XFCE and KDE question

I didn't have duplicates of anything, but to get xfce to load, I had to completely remove kdemod.
Found out I was to spoiled for xfce, so had to completely remove it to get kdemod back.
