PAE Kernel Upgrade fails

Got a small problem here, don't even know if I'm posting in the wrong forum, but I did a fresh install of Arch x86-2008-03.03.core.iso and then proceeded to compile the kernel from abs for PAE support, i.e. change the processor architecture to K8/Athlon64 and enable 64 gig ram support as I have an Athlon 64 FX2 processor and 4 gig of ram. It compiles and installs fine but on the next reboot grub loads and then the kernel stops loading at "decompressing kernel....ok. Just stops dead. Any ideas folks, any help would be appreciated? The kernel is 2.6.24.4-1 if that helps?

Re: PAE Kernel Upgrade fails

You're not the only one sad   I wanted to move from x86_64 to x86, so I installed the x86 version of Arch then compiled a kernel from ABS modifying the architecture type and adding support for 64GB memory and have the same boot problem.

Re: PAE Kernel Upgrade fails

second this, previous compilation of the kernel had been absolutely perfectly smooth, I only changed the architecture to K8 this time and it freezes at "decompressing kernel" very frustrating indeed.
