Running KDE4 along side KDE3

Please excuse my ignorance (I'm a n00b with window managers et al) but is this possible
If so, is there any chance of borking my KDE3 desktop by doing so?

i got installed on my machine kde359 and kdemod401
the only thing that made me feel confusing is that settings is set to ~/.kdemod, sorry i dont know about kde4. moreover i'm using also xfce4,awesome,fluxbox. i think it's okay to use kde and kde4, but for the first i think it would be good to test kde4 with another user.

Just make another user on your pc, you can do it with kuser as root
