Did the way to enter single user mode at boot time changed ?

Hello all :-)

Today I wanted to enter single user mode at boot time.
As usual I passed "1" to the kernel with grub at boot.

Things did not get the way I was used to a few months ago (I do not enter single mode every day ...) : the init started like a normal mode, checking filesystem and so ... Then it stopped before my default runlevel and asked for a root password.

This is one of the thing which changed : I did not had to enter a password for root in single mode before ! Since I disabled the root password I could not enter the single user mode ...

What I would expect is : just load the kernel, mount root read-only and log as root into a minimal shell without asking for a password. This is how it has always been until today !

Here is the kernel line used at boot :

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/62eec8ae-3c18-4225-b48b-57bc0497896f ro vga=773 1

Here is my /etc/inittab :

#
# /etc/inittab
#

# Runlevels:
# 0 Halt
# 1(S) Single-user
# 2 Not used
# 3 Multi-user
# 4 Not used
# 5 X11
# 6 Reboot
