Does it break my system if I install Xfree under /opt

Just wondering. Or if I install gnome under /usr(I mean I recompile it by ABS), is that OK.

like install it w/o pacman? I don't think it will break the system per-say, but pacman will constantly want to install xfree itself into the default path, so I guess technically it will break pacman.

Re: Does it break my system if I install Xfree under /opt

per se, it would work, but you must recompile every pkg that depends on the pkg you are installing on a other position in the filesystem:

e.g. if you install xfree in /opt, then all pkgs that need xfree must be rebuilt on this system

e.g. if you install gnome on a other direction, then all pkgs that need gnome must be rebuilt

why want you to do that?

Just because I am used to. Oh, a lot of work I give up.
