kernel 2.6.6 harddisk shutdown?

i don't know but since i've upgraded to 2.6.6 the reboot takes a bit longer
because i think the kernel shuts down the harddisk is this a new feature (it's not a laptop)?

It's been there a long time I think, it's not a new feature.
But 2.6 kernel has a lot of new stuff, so I wouldn't wonder if it's slower.
The Linux kernel is starting to get bloated....

Re: kernel 2.6.6 harddisk shutdown?

Is this why my PC pauses for a bit when I reboot from Arch?  When I'm in WinXP and do a reboot, the PC shuts down, the BIOS pops back up, and almost immediately after the BIOS finishes, GRUB comes up, as usual.  But now when I 'shutdown -r now' from Arch, after the BIOS, there's a delay (maybe 5 or 7 seconds) before GRUB comes up.  It's not a big deal, but the first time it happened I got pretty nervous.

i changed from kdm to gdm and it restarts with shutdown now
it's not a new kernel feature it's a gdm "feature"
