Fuzzy screen after returning from "monitor off" mode

Right, to begin, English isn't my native tongue, so I'll probably make a lot of nonsense.

Trying to explain the issue... My laptop (MSI EX610) has this weird thing when it comes back from what would normally be screensaver mode, or rather, monitor off mode. The screen just begins flashing as if it was an old CRT monitor that got magnetized, which it probably did, and after a while it returns to normal. It's rather annoying and probably has a chance of damaging the screen, so I'm looking forward to fix it. I'm using the x86_64 arch version with openbox and my bet is that it's acpid that's turning the screen off and later causing this effect.

Note it doesn't happen if it turns the monitor down while not being in X mode - just normal terminal returning back doesn't cause any screen flashing.
I admit, I haven't spent much time searching for this, read what I could on the acpi site and tried doing some simple searches on the forums and google, but haven't managed to find any results.

I had ubuntu installed before, and I can't recall it doing the same thing, but I can't confirm as I didn't use it much.

Hmm, and I've only recently tried the xscreensaver thingie, it seems to turn it off without causing any more issues, but I have yet to test that.

So any ideas on what might be the issue here? Or even better where could I read about it?

Re: Fuzzy screen after returning from "monitor off" mode

right, i'd just like to add that this issue was solved by installing "proper" ati drivers, or lowering sync and refresh rates in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, one of those smile
