For what it's worth, these were the censor words enabled for the day:

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

Oh my god!

That was the best april fools ever!

Honestly tears welled in my eyes when I realized it was a joke. I was so upset thinking there was only going to be a German version of arch and the arch site.

Thank you to everyone involved arch. You all probably don't get much thanks and praise for your work so I want you all to know just how much I appreciate it. The very existence of arch is ... well ... probably waaay too important to me than it should be but there you go, it is that important to me. The thought of no more arch was just horrible. Using another distro would almost be as bad as using windoze.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

@tim: you're right, that was the best april fools ever. Certainly beats the Arch -> Ark april fools from last year.... funny if you think about it, the German pronunciation of 'Arch' sounds a lot like 'ark' - oh the irony! :-)

Honestly, I was getting used to the German really fast though ... ;-)

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

My initial reaction was surprise that so many people fell for it, but it was extremely well done; maybe it wasn't so surprising after all.

I can't help wondering how you're going to beat it next year, though. big_smile

I too was surprised at how many fellow archers took the 'change' (even though it was for a day) as seriously as they had. Maybe some of us are just used to looking at things objectively at a distance when we look down at the  time stamp, and noticing the fact that it says April 1, 2008

Just my extra 2 cents ;-)

Man, I didn't know what the date was, since I never do, and I was thinking, "man, arch is going to be so much more confusing from here on out..."

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

The "90% percent of our development team speaks german" thing, and the image of the german flag made me wonder, add to that the suddenlyness and complete weirdness of the change plus the realization it is 1 april today (thank god it came quick) and I was sure.
After that I did check if 1 april was international though, and a little later I had to know the truth about the majority of the devs being german too (nonsense). I was so glad, so glad, oh SO glad that it was 1 april. smile
All in all, welldone! Such a hilarity also later that day when I was back and could make it trough the overloaded (?) forum into some of the "german wtf" treads sometimes.

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

I dont know what timezone this joke was in smile
I checked in a couple of minutes past midnight, and it took a while before I realized it was actually april 1st. But of course, in other timezones it had already been for some time.

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

I, too, thought this was an awesome April fools joke.  Good job guys.  I'm curious as to how many "fools" actually fell for it.  Judging by the number of posts on the subject, it was quite a number.

Nice one guys.

Between last year and this, you've set a high bench mark for April Fools day :-)

Re: April Fools' Day finished?

My frist idea was redirecting the complete archlinux.org site to archlinux.de. After reading all those reactions when just changing the forums language, I think people woulde have killed me if we had really implemented that. :-)

Likely. Didn't fool me, but it WAS an excellent prank.

DailyKos, at about 10:30 AM EST, in the middle of a VERY busy day (and when CnJ was very busy), started changing random (but, like 70% of them) to be titled "OMG!", and the text of every post was changed so that every odd-numbered character was upcased, the others downcased.
