desktop mirror of laptop

Howdy guys,

I carry my laptop to a good internet connection, but my desktop is for all practical purposes without a connection.  I'm thinking about making my desktop into a mirror of my laptop.  could I load my desktop with a livecd, wipe it, then rsync the entire contents of lappy over?

Has anybody done this?  I guess I could make my laptop into a repo, do a regular arch install, but point to my laptop instead of the real internet.

how can I work this?  has anybody done anything similar?

Re: desktop mirror of laptop

Here's what I did:
(don't try this at home unless you have nothing to lose)

I loaded up a live cd on the target machine, mounted my drive and did

# remove -recursive-force /mountpoint (everything)

(written out because the real command makes me nervous)

then I rsynced my whole laptop over.

I have a couple questions.

I did "ls /mountpoint" prior to the rsync and of course nothing was there.  Then I did "du -h /mountpoint and it showed that there was 189m still somewhere.  What was taking up that space?

Also, the box boots fine, but I get an error something like

"card (address) has no state"

What's that?

What other little things do you think I may have mangled?

I'm using the system right now so it couldn't be much...
