Hi,
I installed sane, and kooka (and xsane too). I have an HP scanjet 2200c.
sane-find-scanner in both, user and root mode gives this:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x0605 [HP ScanJet 2200C], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:005
scanimage -L gives this as root:
device `plustek:libusb:001:005' is a Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 2200c flatbed scanner
but when I'm normal user, it gives this:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
Apparently from googling, this is a permissions issue, but I don't know how to fix it. I made sure and checked that my user is in the scanner group.
So how can I fix this?
Thanks!

Udev. Search these forums for the magic word "scanner".

i fixed this by adding my user to the scanner group and then i had to reboot (logging out and back in didnt seem to work)
Hope this helps

Rebooting isn't necessary. There's device permissions (udev) and the user's permissions (groups, re-login to bash/xorg).

That helped me, thanks a lot. I was reluctant to reboot, but i just went for it anyway and it worked.
Thanks.
I'm a block of code, and I approve this message.
