Comprehensive rating system

Hi I'd like to rate my music files. I think they support being put into one category and having a global rating, but that is not enough for me. I'd like something like what the music genome project does: each music piece has a score from 1 to 10 for a few hundred categories. That way, I could tell my music player to generate playlists like this: "Play light, happy songs; then trippy psychedelic stuff; then quiet nostalgic ambience music."

Does something like this exist? I don't really need software that supports this, but rather I'd like to know if someone has come up with a smart format for storing this kind of information. I think it would also be useful in my other too-ambitious project..

Re: Comprehensive rating system

I laughed pretty hard at the Fastest Fourier Transform in the West! It's pretty cool, but not really what I need. I'd like something that's more general and could be extended to books and movies and comics and...

The idea of intra-track metrics is pretty good though.
