Where is Gnome 2.22's "Remote Desktop Viewer" ?

How do I install the "Remote Desktop Viewer"?
It's included in the latest 2.22 release of gnome, but I can't find it with pacman. Vinagre is available in aur, but is old. (v0.4)

there's a couple of things missing from this gnome like the cheese program. idk about the webkit epiphany (maybe that's a gconf thing)

well I do have gnome-extras, and the update this morning didn't have cheese included in it. I guess I would have to reinstall this package?

I've been using Gnome for quite a while, so it may be that mine just came over when I upgraded to 2.22. But under System | Preferences you should see a listing for Remote Desktop.

I see the remote desktop viewer, but honestly what is its purpose other than to let other people see your desktop?   Is there a way to get it to connect to other servers (linux/mac/win)? I'm a little dumbfounded by this feature

That's the opposite of what "Remote Desktop Viewer" is used for. Let's say what you found is "Remote Desktop Server".

That's what you would use "Remote Desktop Viewer" for.

I think that is because gnome is just a metapackage, so it's not literally installed on your system. You would get better results by doing:

pacman -Q | grep gnome

I know Gnome is a meta package, but I assumed that it would have versions still, to keep track of it's progression over time. But since it's just a collection of other packages I know realize how it doesn't need to.

Tried that, most of my gnome packages are 2.20, some 2.18, a couple others with misc versions but no 2.22. If I do System > Help Gnome reports itself as being 2.20. If 2.22 is the latest, why am I still on 2.20?

The "Remote Desktop Viewer" you are searching for is called Vinagre. You can find the current package (v0.5) in the AUR. It is the same version which is included in the latest realease of gnome (2.22). Once installed you will find its entry in the gnome menu under internet. Keep in mind that arch handles gnome a little bit different. Not everything which is included in a gnome release is also a depency of it. The core components of gnome can be found in the extra repository, things like cheese or vinagre which are no "core" components of gnome and not necessary to run it are treated as separate applications. Therefore they have to be manuelly installed by the user.

So apparently it has been updated since, no need for the lecture.

Cheese is available in extra, but not Vinagre. Strange to have to resort to AUR for Vinagre, since they both are "new" features of 2.22. http://library.gnome.org/misc/release-n … en#rnusers
