I put this in my .zshrc, found it from a post on the KDEmod forums.
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde
OpenOffice.org 2.4 looks fine here now.
EDIT: nvm, it USED to look fine. For some reason now it's defaulting to a GTK interface, but it still looks OK when GTK apps are set to use QtCurve.

do you all have that integration issue also with the official rpm based install packages?
The packet OOo_2.4.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US.tar.gz (rpms packets) dowloaded from the official site seems to work fine. It blends like Arch's Ooo 2.3 version.
So the problem occurs during the build of the packet. Should I fill a bug report?

This is a known "bug". Actually it's a workaround for another bug that makes openoffice unusable when not using the GTK VCL. Until the OpenOffice guys have invented a way to initialize the g_type system without having to use the GTK VCL plugin, we'll hardcode the GTK VCL in the launcher.

Their version seems to work. What do you mean when saying that it makes openoffice unusable?

I have the same problem with disappearing menus, which I didn't notice before. Does anyone "invented" the way to repair it?

I'll try to integrate a "best possible" solution soon. We should test it in the 2.4.1 pre-builds. Next OOo 3.x-devel pkg will also have it integrated.

I have been fighting this problem for a long time now and I have found something nobody has mentioned before: the complete path (including '/'s and file extension) to the document must not be longer than 32 characters. If I start a new document, everything works fine, until I save it to a location with more than 32 characters and reopen it again. If I run writer from the console, the output is:
QPainter::begin: Cannot paint null pixmap
I don't know if this is going to help, but if there is more I can do to get into this, please instruct me.
edit: I tried the last openoffice-base-devel 3.0_dev300_m10-1 and everything is wrong even with a new unsaved file. Putting
export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde
in my .bashrc did help to solve the issue though.
Now tell me, are there ghosts in my laptop or what?

I'm running OO from the repositories, and I have the same problems.
export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde
If I try to open a .odt after running this command and launching OO from the console, the program crashes
The only way I found to open a document and don't have problems(well, it looks ugly, but I can live with that) is to launch the program from the menu, and then open a document using the menu option or the toolbar button
Cheers!

In my case the problem remains regardless of the method by which I run OO

Im also getting this problem.

I just installed Arch on my 'experimental' PC and I'm getting the same problem. I have the exact same setup on my primary PC (KDEmod + OO) and I have QT/GTK integration working fine. I wish I could remember what I did
Offline
I've installed Kubuntu on VirtualBox, just for testing to see if this problem reproduces on another distribution.
I've installed on the VM the same applications that I have here(same version if possible). No problems at all with OpenOffice, it integrates perfectly. Even with a file with a path longer than 32 chars.
So, my guess it has something to do with Arch, I don't know. library problems? OO compilation options?
This is not a major problem, I can live with it... I have other problem, and it's a major one, the one I'm posting on Eclipse freeze
Cheers!

+1 for problems no matter what I do.

So, did anyone found a solution? Why is this happening?

i figured that i would add my name to the list of people having this problem with the crazy menus. i try to open a ppt file on my desktop and everything disappears in the OO environment. however, when i open from the k menu, no problems. id say its safe to call this a bug. i am running kdemod btw.

I can also confirm that it finally works as it should be

Where was the problem after all?

The screenshots do look more like the qt3 fallback theme then GTK. Running KDE doesnt mean you have a proper qt config, because it has it's own. So without further investigation, i assume a qt3,qt4,KDE3,KDE4 misconfiguration.

On KDE 4.3.0 (64-bit system) using go-OpenOffice ver. 3.1.0.99.2 ArchLinux build-1 (ooo310-m17) some interface details are missing, especially in the "Save as..." pop-up window (no text at all in some parts and in PPM-menu)
Anyone has a similar problem?
