I'm trying to get my head around this. I inserted my sd card into my laptop's internal sd/mmc card reader, but it's not automounting.
$dmesg
mmc0: new SD card at address d136
mmcblk0: mmc0:d136 SD512 500224KiB
mmcblk0: p1
To make it useable, I still have to isse this on the command line.
sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 ./stick/
Am sorry to sound like an Ubuntu brat, but I promised myself to give this distro a try for a few weeks, however I'm really missing the conveniences of old Ubuntu. I'm using XFCE. How do I auto-mount my sd/mmc cards?
I tried http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AutoFS_HowTo but it didn't work for me.
One thing I've realized is I'm *really* learning a lot more about how Linux interals are working. Kinda. Whatever.

Did you try the XFCE volume manager or just AutoFS?

I tried both thunar-volman and autofs. no joy.

The output from dmesg looks good so it looks like its a mounting problem. The only thing I can think of is to go through a checklist:
Did you enable Volman in Thunar?
Have you got dbus and hal starting up in rc.conf?
Are you a member of the need groups(not exactly sure which ones are needed) dbus, hal, storage, etc?

You could try the xfce4-mount-plugin. pacman -S xfce4-mount-plugin
---for there is nothing either good or bad, but only thinking makes it so....

Volman in Thunar is enabled. The account is a member of the necessary groups, as indicated in various wikis and forums posting I followed.
How does one use the xfce mount plugin?
Offline
Once installed you can add it to the toolbar just like any other plugin.

check to see if you have the file 'gparted-disable-automount.fdi' located at...
/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi
if so delete it.

I got it to work, for about two days. Now, it's not working again.
I'm tired of this. It's a nice and interesting distro that could give you the latest of whatever you like, and probably want, but I don't have the time (or enough patience) to tweak and twiddle every little part of my system, I guess I'm better off with something else.
Thanks. The forums had been helpful and the wiki is nice but I guess i'm not cut for this.
