Well.. i am curious if anyone can solve this one
For some reason my copy/paste under gnome is broken...
i can e.g. copy text from ANY application to gedit using select text/middle click.
i can also select text in gedit and paste it to ANY application.
BUT:
i cant copy/paste from gedit to gedit... i have to use edit -> copy and edit -> paste to do this...
anyone has a clue what this could be?

That's very odd. I can't reproduce it because I don't have middle click enabled on my trackpad. Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V work fine in gedit for me.
Have a look at the bugzilla for gnome/gedit and see if others are having the same problem. Maybe someone has posted a fix or workaround.

doesnt seem to be something that is related.. just the usual "crappy gnome internal clipboard manager" messages..

Well, I have a similar problem.
For me only select to copy and middle click to paste works.
Using gnome + compiz-fusion.
Using the clipboard (ctrl-c/ctrl-v) or right click copy/paste, or edit-copy/paste, whatever, quick working altogether in Evolution recently for me, I'm not sure when.
In gedit I can paste, but it is garbage, in other words, foreign unicode graphics characters, and not what was copied.
In other apps, copy/paste work fine.
For me copy/paste via middle click in gedit and Evolution do work.

In order to troubleshoot this I installed glipper and xclip.
I'm noticing according to "xclip -o" that the garbage item in the clipboard is always: \u0178\u0178ng 6, GenuineIntel
A side effect of installing glipper is gnome apps now appear to work correctly in regards to cut/copy/paste via ctrl-x/ctrl-c/ctrl-v.

Alright, glipper really did not fix the problem for me. It just "appeared to" but after further testing it obviously had not.
The problem appears to be virtual box related for me.
