Totally new at Arch - totally new at Linux - i'll just pop the question
How do i login as root using Gnome? Everytime i try it says i cant. Some security function i guess,

The question I have is why do you want to do that? There is probably a safer way of doing what you are trying to do.

you usually don't need to do this: the superuser account is for maintenance and shouldn't be used for a full GUI logon - instead, while you are logged in as an ordinary user, issue the command "su" in the terminal, type in the root password and you have superuser command line at your disposal ![]()

Generally, you don't want to login into X as a root. You should log in always as a user, and when you need to perform something as a root, use 'su' or 'sudo' (in terminal) or 'gksu' (pops up a window). Note that to use su or gksu, you should be in the 'wheel' group.

Thank you guys - i wanted to install some packages - already did.
