FTP Clients!

A few quick questions about FTP clients...one of the main reasons I ended up going back to my Mac was because I couldn't get FTP to work well in development: Transfers of above 1000 files regularly timed out, but I never had problems with Transmit for Mac OS.

So, hopefully if you can answer any or all of these, I'll have a better idea of the FTP client situation in Linux.
• What FTP client to you use?
• Have you ever done FTP from the terminal?
• How heavy are your FTP demands, and does the client satisfy these?
• Which other ones have you used? Do you have any advice about these?

I want to go back to Linux for the free upgrades, but more importantly for the easy access to the best of open source software and for the ease of installing my own software. Local web development is key.

Re: FTP Clients!

Filezilla is good.  I transfer many files between systems but mainly on a local network.

Re: FTP Clients!

firstly I used gftp, but was not satisfied for many reasons.

after a search for alternatives I discovered ncftp, which is IMHO absolutely awesome for my needs:
it is CLI-based, with tab completition, bookmark support, password remembering...
in Arch, it is included in the "extra" repository

Re: FTP Clients!

Have to say filezilla here to. Works perfectly for my needs. If I'm sshing to my box I use lftp from console. For the day to day use Filezilla is the way to go though.

Re: FTP Clients!

I'm not terminal-shy, so I'll have to give that a go. It looks like it was created for developers, not clients who need to upload one image a day (*cough* Kasablanca, gFTP). Does it have any dependencies? Their site doesn't make it clear, although I suspect that /bin/ftp is the only one, and that might not even be necessary. I'd like to build it on my Mac if possible, since I'm not running an Arch box or otherwise.

EDIT: By "that", I meant ncftp. Just wanted to make that clear since someone posted just before me.

Here's an interesting post regarding ncftp vs. lftp:

Re: FTP Clients!

When I was using KDE Kasablanca became my default ftp client.  Then I felt in love with Xfce, so Filezilla replaced it.  If you want something complete like FlashFXP, you can run some versions with WINE.  Under terminal I am using ftp or ncftp.
