I have the same problem on arch64 running Gnome and compiz-fusion.
My ext3 OSSHARE partition disappeared from my desktop. As with clansman77, the volumes visible box is ticked.
My /etc/fstab looks like this:
#
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
none /dev/pts devpts defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/dvd /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
/dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/sda6 / ext3 defaults 0 1
/dev/sda2 /mnt/OSSHARE ext3 defaults 0 0
/dev/sda1 /mnt/windows ntfs-3g users,noauto,ui=1000,gid=100,fmask=0113,dmask0002,locale=en_GB.utf
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

The "show volumes" option on Gnome doesn't show static mounted volumes (configured via fstab) on desktop, only automaticaly mounted volumes (handled automaticaly via HAL).

but before the gnome update the mounted volumes was visible.what could be the problem here?? also i cant open any files through the places/recent documents in the gnome panel if those files are in non root directory
