I just installed arch on my laptop.
When I try to sync the package list
pacman -Syit gives me errors about how it couldn't retrieve the files from ftp.ibiblio.org
I'm not sure if it can see the internet. If it can't how can I fix it?
(no gui)
I am new to arch, but have used linux for several months.

i found that when i first install arch, my only priority is to get an internet connection going. (then upgrade and setup ect)
Are you connected to the internet? try: ping google.co.uk

It says
unknown host google.ca
Therefore, I appear not to be connected. How do I connect?
At the moment, I only need the internet to build the system.

You may want to check the wiki:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners_Guide
and
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Configuring_network

I should have check the wiki for network config, though I did look at the pacman section.
Now I can sync the pacakge list.
