I just finished building all of KDE from source using the flags CXXFLAGS=-march=pentium4 -msse2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer as well as CFLAGS the same as CXXFLAGS.
Everything seems to be working quite well when it comes to speed. The only gotcha is is trying to run a command as root and not from the command-line but through KDE. The authentication fails and says that the password is invalid. I get the same result if I try to go through the KControl to manage the printer queue. When I use the Administrator button, the password is denied.
Currently, I have GCC 3.3.3 installed. I looked over the changes for 3.40, and nothing appears to be for the P4 arch when it comes to optimization.
Any suggestions?

This is a bug with kdesu (ksu?). I thought it was fixed recently though. There's mention of it on the forum in other places.
