qt apps are black under gnome

I've been having this problem now for quite sometime but with gnome-settings-daemon loading qt apps such as smplayer and google earth's interfaces are black, instead of the default qt look. Does anyone know how to fix this or why it happens? Thanks for any help and let me know if you need more info.

Change QT theme by running qtconfig from console and see if the problem still exists.

Well that worked for smplayer. Google earth's interface is still black though. Does anybody know how to get this back to something usable? Thanks.
