And?

If it's so important...just upgrade. Testing is working fine for many users...

I don't care about the kernel. I care about the drivers that were built against it.

This is the arrogance what I like about the Archlinux. RTFM Read The F*c*i*g Manuell.

Thank you Forum Moderator, you are cool and did a good job. The Archlinux User will be proud of you, for your helpfull answer.

And this, folks, is the wrong way to help people. If Jada here thought misfit's response was so unhelpful, he would have provided a better explanation himself, instead of attacking mistfit directly. This sort of behavior is unacceptable here, as it's basically trolling.

Jada, consider this your first, last, and only warning from me.

--------------------------

Anyhow, to the issue at hand, what misfit is saying is that you should look into building the modules you need yourself, using the abs system. It's pretty straightforward to use and the learning curve isn't too steep. It's also an easy way to get involved in development if that's your thing.

Re: 2.6.25 enters [testing]

I asked this on another thread but got no response, so I'm asking here.

The mactel project has updated patches for kernel 2.6.25:

http://mactel-linux.svn.sourceforge.net … es-2.6.25/

If I'm not mistaken, one of the reasons it wasn't included at first, was the absense of patches for version 2.6.25, but now that they have released them, I would like to know if they are going to be included on Arch's kernel, or if I should start building my own kernel from now on. Thanks.

Edit: link fixed

I feel this warrants a response.
JaDa, there is no reason to make a snap judgment against me. Part of the reason for my abrupt response is because SpookyET has complained about this issue (and others), without using the tools that Arch provides for solving such issues. These powerful and versatile tools are provided specifically for such instances and are constantly recommended by users trying to help other users.
If a user invests time solving their issue and explaining these steps in a forum post, then they will no doubt receive more time invested by those whom have been asked to help in the first place.
SpookyET's post is saying "I need this done". Mine is saying "Here is how you do it".
Please keep in mind that as a forum mod, I must read every post Every post, period. I respond to as many as I can, in a spirit of helping others. Some are more verbose than others, true, but I am comfortable and at peace with my judgment to respond simply with a link to the ABS entry in the wiki (which BTW was contributed by members for the benefit of persons just like SpookyET).
BTW, I am old enough, mature enough  and secure enough to forgo such self-serving tactics which you have erroneously ascribed to me. (I am not trying to be c00l).

Re: 2.6.25 enters [testing]

Meh if your after a new kernel in a hurry patch it yourself and build it. Im running 2.6.26-rc3 with the arch config no worries lol
Same thing for drivers, just make a bash script that goes through some dirs building and installing the driver packages. I only have nvidia/vbox to worry about so I just do it all the old fashioned way.

On a side note, DSDT.aml detection on startup seems to work fine for me with 2.6.26 using the default mkinitcpio hook, no idea why 2.6.25 was being so werid.

Re: 2.6.25 enters [testing]

@Misfit138 @neotuli

see it like this, I am upset. Not personally with you guys. I read to much in the Archlinux Forum, RTFM, make a Bug Report, use ABS, do it by your self, etc.

Then I am thinking, if I have to do all by my self, why I need Archlinux?

And now tell me the changes from Archlinux in the last half year! I feel it's going worse. It sounds like, some developmer will tell me. Build your own distro and make all by your self.

And those one's http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=48890&p=2 you guys stay in the public focus. The Reviews, it is all up to you guys, if it is positive or negative.

Jada, consider this your first, last, and only warning from me.

Do you really believe with your Age of 20 years, you can preventing criticism with threatening me? What you going to do? Tell me! I tell you Simo, this is a "misdemeanor" wink

Re: 2.6.25 enters [testing]

Wow building a kernel = building a system from scratch... no one is forcing you to use Arch if you want it to release kernels faster help out instead of complaining, the release cycle for kernels in Arch is miles ahead of most distros that Ive used before.

In anycase bitching here wont solve your issues, if you spent the time it took you to write that post you could have built your own kernel and been done with it.

cd /var/abs/core/kernel26
nano PKGBUILD ... change stuff
makepkg
pacman -U kernel26-xxxxx
~/bin/archisawsome.sh

Done.

As you can see, the discussion is over, so there's no need to keep it going.

@ wizzomafizzo
I don't think that is useful or constructive for the spirit of this community, which tries to be both peaceful and respectful, no matter what. So I'm obscuring that picture.

Just to bring this topic on topic, what is the status of the Kernel in testing? Any issues/troubles that needs to be solved/tested before release?

There is still a few bug reports open regarding 2.5.25 but I'm not sure if they are big enough to be blockers (I haven't looked in detail).

The ABS link does not apply towards me. I know about it. I've made Arch Linux packages.
The LAZINESS link does apply towards me. Yeah, I know I can rebuild the drivers against 2.6.24. I just chose not to do so.

JaDa, I do not support your rant. Full stop.

At a glance this kernel seems to behave better than the previous one in power management. The battery duration has increased from 2hrs30m to 3hrs
