When I plug in a flash drive or an external hard drive, it mounts and opens the device twice. So when I plug in the flash drive, two windows pop up.
This is a nuisance. Where did I go wrong in setting hal up?

It probably mounts two partitions present on your drives.

I have the same issue, and no its only the one partition, mounted on say /media/flash it opens up a window to /media/flash, twice.

On my external Hard drive, this is especially annoying. It has two separate partitions, and therefore opens four windows.

Maybe you should specify what DE you are using: I guess it' Gnome 2.22.
If yes, I have the same problem, as written here. I'm going to report a bug on gnome bugzilla as soon as possible.

I am using gnome 2.22.
My system is completely up to date, so everything should be the most recent version.

Thanks! That worked. I knew it was something like that, where multiple programs or commands were opening the window.
