Fastest mirrors for pacman?

Hey guys/girls

I've freshly installed Arch for the first time. I'm following the beginner's guide through, and I've reached the stage where I need to add mirrors to pacman. For some reason my file was empty, but I added a mirror from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mirrors and it works nonetheless.

Anyway, I ran pacman -Syu as recommended, but it's running really slowly (18kb/s or so) from the first UK mirror. I know that foreign mirrors can be potentially faster than this, as my internet speed isn't this bad!

How can I find the fastest possible mirrors without trying them all one by one? I looked in google, but found nothing useful.

Thanks in advance for any comments =]

That's the mirror you use right?
It is fine for me, I get speeds around 400 - 500 kb/s

Re: Fastest mirrors for pacman?

You'll want to run the command:

rankmirrors -v /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

to determine the fastest mirror. From help, it

ranks pacman mirrors by their connection and opening speed.

Re: Fastest mirrors for pacman?

FYI, rankmirrors requires python.
pacman -Sy python

Re: Fastest mirrors for pacman?

Thanks guys, when my system finishes updating I'll be certain to try the steps listed above =]

Thought presumably, given that my mirrorlist file was empty to begin with, I'd need to add all of the mirrors first. I'll report back with how things turn out.
