[SOLVED] Aluminium 24" iMac xorg.conf configuration?

I am in the process of setting up Arch on the current model 24" iMac.  I am using the open drivers for the ati card at the moment.

I have not set any refresh rates in xorg.conf as I don't know what the 24" monitors specifications are in that regard?  Does anyone know?

I am getting fairly constant flashing of screen aberrations at the moment.  I don't know if these are being caused by the driver or the refresh rate?

Gnome says the display settings are 1920x 1200 @ 60 Hz.

So I tend to think that it is the open source ati driver, lspci -nn gives an unknown for the graphics card.

I fear that when I try to install the catalyst proprietary driver from ati that things are going to get worse...

I don't have much faith in ati products.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.

Re: [SOLVED] Aluminium 24" iMac xorg.conf configuration?

Ok, I by tuning the xorg.conf I have stabilised the display which is great.

I followed the info' on this page for the Open driver:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … TI_Drivers

Now I will attempt to get the Catalyst drivers working, as I really do like to play guild wars from time to time... ;-)

I'll post back my results, & any cries for help...

Re: [SOLVED] Aluminium 24" iMac xorg.conf configuration?

Well, I followed the instructions from here:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … ary_driver

& surprisingly, I only had to do a little editing of obvious duplication in the xorg.conf & now I have stable ATI proprietary driver, driven display that supports direct rendering!

Very cool indeed.

Next problem I'll start a new thread for, which is the lack of sound, I know that the Ubuntu people have a patch solution to this:

Re: [SOLVED] Aluminium 24" iMac xorg.conf configuration?

A copy of my current xorg.conf  can be found in Post #21. in this thread:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 92#p435592

which also has a great deal of other info' regarding the Alu' iMacs, specifically the 24" as that is what I'm using.

Post #5 in the above thread turned into this wiki how-to:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IMac_Aluminium

By the way, the ATi Catalyst drivers installed so easily I was shocked!
