Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

My touchpad just stopped working.

My flash drive needs to be plugged in at boot to mount.

My desktop has failed to load the background a couple times.

I updated the system mid afternoon.
I have fiddled with rc.conf to try to fix wireless, but I didn't change anything that should affect this.

Fustrated Windows users have two options.
1. Resort to the throwing of computers out of windows.
2. Resort to the throwing of windows out of computers.

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

Do you know what packages were in the update? The only thing recently I can think of might be hal got updated in the repo about a week ago, that might related to the flash drive, but it still seems weird. Since you say it needs to be plugged in at boot, I assume you've done a restart so any daemons like hal and dbus would have restarted then. Can you post the end of the output for dmesg when you plug in the drive?

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

Restarting hal, dbus does not help.  I'm pretty sure I had the flash drive working within the last week. I noticed today, after it stopped working, that system>preferences>removable drives and media no longer has the tab that lets me choose options about mounting and browsing flash drives.

I don't know what packages I upgraded, but I upgraded every day this week. I should keep track of things like this.

You can find out what you upgraded and when in /var/log/pacman.log.

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

It upgraged these:

[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded gnome-panel (2.22.1.2-3 -> 2.22.1.3-1)
[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded gnome-control-center (2.22.0-3 -> 2.22.1-1)
[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded gnome-mount (0.7-1 -> 0.8-1)
[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded gnome-volume-manager (2.22.1-1 -> 2.22.3-1)
[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded imagemagick (6.4.0.2-1 -> 6.4.0.9-1)
[2008-04-25 15:26] upgraded totem-plparser (2.22.1-1 -> 2.22.2-1)

Can I roll back an upgrade?

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

you can reinstall packages from your pacman cache with the "pacman -U packet_name-version" command
(pacman cache is /var/cache/pacman/pkg) simply use a previus package version wink

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

Touchpad fixed. Changed input from
/dev/input/mouse0
to
/dev/psaux

Still working on mounting, which appears to be related to updates.
Can I roll back the updates and tell it not to upgrade them until the next version comes out?

Thanks B. I will look into that. No matter how much I use the wiki, I always miss something useful like that.

You can blacklist packages in /etc/pacman.conf, the page I linked you to will tell you how wink.

Figured it out. Had to cd to the directory first. The wiki didn't say I had to.

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

Here's a suggestion for Gnome.  For mounting, you might need to add 'fuse' to the list of modules in /etc/rc.conf.  See the line that starts with 'MODULES=('.

Re: Several problems, possibly due to updates.[SOLVED]

fuse is not in the modules section, but is loaded automatically. I undid the gnome-mount upgrade. If the old one works, and the new one doesn't, the choice is clear.
