fan always on

Hi all,

I've just installed Arch on my HP nx6325 and I've installed acpid and cpufreq after following the installation manual. My problem now is that the fan is always on, even if the laptop just stands there for an hour.
What can I do in order to make the fan work only when needed?

Did you check your BIOS for an option? My laptop has one...

Yepp, and it's off. I've installed acpid and cpufreqd but that didn't help. I've also followed the instructions in the wiki, but the fan is still on.

Check this post. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=43372
You may have a similar problem.  I've never used laptop-mode-tools myself but some people have success with it. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=32871

Re: fan always on

Did you load the right modules and have you added them to your rc.conf? Can you set the frequency manually with cpufreq-set (part of cpufreq-utils)?
I use those for my 2,13GHz HP Centrino (not sure if I need all of them):

processor fan button battery ac thermal acpi-cpufreq cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_ondemand

Depending on your processor the ones needed for your machine will be different.

Bye, signor_Rossi.

The standard ones (ac battery button fan processor thermal) are automatically loaded by Arch during boot, look at /etc/rc.sysinit.
