No Logs!

I am new to Arch, but have been a Linux user for awhile.  I have always gone to /var/log and had full log files.  I wanted to check my auth.log and syslog today, but when I opened the files, nothing was there.  Is there something I need to do, maybe with cron or some daemon to start the logging?

Do you have syslog-ng in your daemons array?
