Pacman "could not satisfy dependency"

System was in perfect shape until one day I run pacman -Syu and there is a unresolvable conflict.

:: Starting full system upgrade...
warning: libopensync: forcing upgrade to version 0.22-1
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: kdemod-kdepim-kitchensync: requires libopensync>=0.34

Any ideas as to how to fix it?

Re: Pacman "could not satisfy dependency"

For some reason tpowa decided to revert libopensync from version 0.36 to 0.22.  I'm not sure why he did this, but I guess that means the kdemod maintainers need to rebuild their kdepim-kitchensync package against 0.22

Re: Pacman "could not satisfy dependency"

I expect he did it because 0.22 is the stable release and 0.3x is the development release. See http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45683 for related info.

sagui - when posting about issues like this, try to include the most relevant details in the topic. IOW, "could not satisfy dependencies" is a generic pacman error message, "kdemod-kdepim-kitchensync: requires libopensync>=0.34" is specific to your problem.

Re: Pacman "could not satisfy dependency"

You could just remove kitchensync - it doesn't seem to be a dependency breaker elsewhere (AFAIK - though could, of course, be completely and utterly wrong - well, it worked for me earlier today).

Re: Pacman "could not satisfy dependency"

I added IgnorePKG = libopensync to /etc/pacman.conf. Wondering if this is gona a problem in future updates.

You will get warned when a newer version appears in the repos so you will be able to see when a newer version appears.  You will only run into trouble if there is some compatibility issues between the stable and developmental version.  I'd just wait and see what breaks!
