Trying to run either acidrip or dvdrip leads to this error:
/usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/current/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/Glib/Glib.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr
This same error is reported in this bug:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/9450
Where it is reported to affect an application known as zim.
Perl 5.10.0-3 seems to be broken...

Have you tried rebuilding these packages to see if that helps?

dvdrip starts fine here on x86_64. Is your sytem up-to-date (using an up-to-date mirror) ? The file referenced in the error message no longer exist. It's now /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/auto/Glib/Glib.so

I believe the packages installed here are up to date for i686:
acidrip 0.14-6
dvdrip 0.98.8-2
It seems the moving of things perl has broken a number of applications,
leading to the need of the package maintainers to maintain their packages.
My needs were met via a non-perl application:
mencoder dvd://1 -alang en -oac mp3lame -lameopts br=320:cbr -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq -vf scale -zoom -xy 800 -o eltopo.avi
Every conscious entity should view Alejandro Jodorowsky's shocking commentary.
Thank you for the time and consideration of your replies...

Do you have this file on your system: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/current/i686-linux-thread-multi/auto/Glib/Glib.so ?
If yes, update glib-perl (and all other perl packages). AFAIK, all repos packages have been rebuilt to work with the new perl. That's why we moved it to core.

Finally got to a: pacman -Syu
The glib-perl and others all got an update.
dvdrip and acidrip are back in action!
Thanks again!
