Hi all!! This is my 1st post on the Arch forums and my 2nd much more successful foray into Arch Linux.
Alas, not all things are perfect. More to the point, I'm unable to get fstab to correctly mount one of my ntfs drives. Here's my fstab:

I've tried mounting by "/dev/sdb2" and by its UUID (right above /dev/sdb2) to no avail. I'd also mention that it mounts fine after boot-up and log-in. However, my 1st NTFS drive mounts perfectly as you can see above. Another thing to take note is that when I attempt to mount this 2nd NTFS drive (by fstab), a somewhat long message pops up during boot, BUT goes by too fast for me to read.
If anyone can put me on the right track, I'd be very grateful.

Is this the /etc/fstab that is failing on you or is the version above commented out (# at beginning of the line) deliberately?

OK thanks for the clarification.
So whether using the /dev/sdb2 or UUID in /etc/fstab it won't mount at boot?
1) see anything in dmesg
2) how do you mount /dev/sdb2 after boot?
3) these 2 ntfs partitions, can you tell us anything more about what they do/don't have in common?

This gives root permissions but not to regular users of course...
3) They're both NTFS partitions created during my Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit installation. Both house a variety of images, video, music, and software. I can't say there's much different between the two. Ubuntu mounts both drives fine. One difference would be that one's on sda while the other is on sdb...

The fact that you can mount without specifying fs type with the -t switch suggests that your /etc/fstab is working up to a point. You have ubuntu installed or it's a livecd environment? You might want to see what's in the ubuntu /etc/fstab and then try using that info to modify your arch /etc/fstab.

Actually, my Vista installation is on yet another drive (/dev/sda1). Both sda2 and sdb2 are ntfs data drives.

I have Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron installed on /dev/sdb1. I have the exact same fstab from my Ubuntu installation in my Arch installation.
Upon some further tinkering, I'm wondering if there's something wrong with permissions upon mounting? Here's my original fstab for easier reference:

If I log into Arch and unmount both drives (whether they're mounted properly or not), remount both drives, and then do an "ls -l" simply by

[kuro@Saber-chan ~]$ sudo mount /dev/sdb2 /mnt/neko

As you can see, it seems owner does not have write permissions for /dev/sdb2 (/mnt/neko) Is there some reason this would happen???

Alright I finally fixed this problem. The whole problem stems from not properly shutting down Windows . ntfs-3g had errors when mounting that partition regardless of Vista being installed on it or not. It's strange how one of my drives was able to mount but the other suffered from this problem.
