Hey guys,
none of my windows have borders when I run compiz-fusion, and none of the fixes I've tried have worked. I've googled, forum-searched, and wikied. Still, I must have missed something. Can we compile a list of all the things to check? like options enabled in xorg.conf or settings in the compiz-fusion manager? Part of my laptop's job is to dazzle.

I'd like the idea but I think it's (almost?) impossible to track every possible complication with compiz, if it's possible it would be great not only for arch users.. (anyway this would be a task for the compiz-fusion forum
)

[off-topic]I'm not a fan of these effects, but since I understand that it's one of the better ways to get folks interested in Linux even I run it these days. [/off-topic end]
What DM do you use and which bundle of compiz-fusion did you install? (see Wiki: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz_Fusion)
I don't really know exactly how these packages are put together, but I installed compiz-fusion-gtk (I use XFCE) and it installed Emerald with it. I suppose you need Emerald to get borders working correctly, but I'm not sure.

it is possible that is a problem with the last version of xorg..
in my computer compiz runs great with xorg-server 1.2.0-5 but fails miserably with the latest version...
(I followed all the fix written in the wiki )
emerald is not needed (I use gtk-window-decorator in gnome)

Ta Daaaa!
The wiki to the rescue.
the compiz troubleshooting page had the answer, and it was easy in my case. I edited xorg.conf and made the default color depth 24. That's it.
