Audacious volume

It always used to work, but the last weeks audacious's volume control doesn't work correctly anymore. It's at version 1.5.0.

The strange thing is, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes, moving the volume slider will not change the volume. Then for example I open SeaMonkey and type this post here on the ArchLinux forum, halfway switch to Audacious again and suddenly the volume bar will work again. Then later it won't work anymore.

Basically, most of the times the Audacious volume slider does NOT work.

there are also some rare occurences where the volume slider is fixed at 7%.

I have set the output plugin to "ALSA Output Plugin".

That is also the only one that works. There are no less than 4 other output plugin options in Audacious, but NONE of them works at all (they either give no audio, or make Audacious crash)! These are: FileWriter plugin, Jack Output Plugin 0.17, Null Output Plugin, OSS Output Plugin.

What could be the reason? Is there some setting to make it work normally again?
