xcompmgr & openbox: all windows disappear, only shows desktop & conky
I'm trying to get xcompmgr working. I type "xcompmgr -c" and all the windows + pypanel disappear. I can still see conky and my desktop wallpaper. The windows will momentarily re-appear when I do Alt-Tab, but then quickly disappear again. My xorg.conf is below. Other files are available if we need them. xcompmgr does not output any errors to the terminal when I run it. Any help is appreciated.

I am using 64 bit archlinux and I am facing the same problem, i am using the open source intel driver. I feel its some kind of bug.

What does your .conkyrc look like? It sounds as if the conky window is in its own window, taking the entire desktop and then floating on top. Can't be sure without seeing the .conkyrc though

I ran xcompmgr with these options and it now works but window drag is sluggish.

somehow this seems to be a bug with conky and openbox, if you change
own_window no
own_window_type rootto
own_window yes
own_window_type desktopxcompmgr will work

I tried this but now with some apps like terminal and scite the right click menu doesn't work.

Seems to have worked for me. One unfortunate side effect: the right click menu does not work when you click on the conky portion of the screen
