Re: pacman problem

Can you give the actual pacman output.  It sounds like you are not connecting to your mirror.  If your internet is alright otherwise, perhaps try a different mirror.  Your mention of a proxy make me think you should try an ftp:// mirror rather than an http:// one.

Re: pacman problem

When i make "pacman -Sy" it gives:
:: Synchronizing package databases...
--16:42:32--  ftp://cesium.di.uminho.pt/pub/archlinux … .db.tar.gz

                 => `/var/lib/pacman/core.db.tar.gz.part'
Resolving cesium.di.uminho.uminho.pt...
failed: Temporary failure in name resolution.

and continues...

I can't ping any adress in the internet, because my proxy requires authentication and i did the modification that is mentioned in the wiki,
adding to pacman.conf the line for using wget that makes the authentication. But how do i make all traffic being authenticated?

Re: pacman problem

I'd guess wget does not work with the settings you gave it in pacman.conf.  The best way to test it is just to try downloading something with wget manually and see if it works.  If not post the wget line here (hide login details) so we can have a look at it.

Re: pacman problem

here is wget:
wget --proxy-user "domain/user" --proxy-passwd "******" <ftp from above>
and the answer:
--13:57:13-- <ftp site>
                  => `<file to dowload>'
Resolving cesium.di.uminho.pt ...  failed: Temporary failure in name resolution.

Re: pacman problem

Can you download anything else or is it just that file? If you can, try a different mirror.

Re: pacman problem

I tried an http mirror and nothing. If you have one i could try it? But still i don't ping any site how can i bypass this?
then i would now that the authentication is right.

Re: pacman problem

Can you access internet at all from that computer?  Is this a fresh install that is not working?  This is sounding more and more like a network problem and not a pacman problem.

Post the network section of /etc/rc.conf and the output of ifconfig and we can check it is set up correctly.

Also, if this computer is new to the network, the administrators might need the MAC address to allow it network access.  Quite a few places I have worked at have locked down the network in this way.

Re: pacman problem

try setting the http_proxy environmental variable:

ie

 $ http_proxy=http://proxy.address/ pacman -Syu

may the Source be with you
