Hello,
I've got a Netgear WG511v3 wifi card that (I'm pretty sure) only works with ndiswrapper. So, I've installed the drivers and it works. What I mean is, WEP works. WPA, however, doesn't work.
I have wireless-tools netcfg and wpa_supplicant installed. One netcfg profile uses security=wpa-config and goes to the wpa_supplicant.conf I made.
The other uses security=wpa-psk with the key.
The former gets a "wireless association failed" error. Range is certainly not the issue here. One thing to note is that when running netcfg2 wireless, both the green and amber lights light up (good thing- green is power/activation and amber is traffic).
The latter gets DHCP IP lease attempt failed and doesn't show the amber light.
I guess my question is: which one is better/getting farther in the process of connecting? I would think DHCP comes after wireless association, but the first one looks like it's working better.
Thanks. If any more info needed just holla.

The option is "SECURITY=wpa" not SECURITY=wpa-psk
Otherwise have you tried all of:

OK, I changed it to wpa and I'm getting a "wireless association failed". Both the green and amber lights are blinking.
Well, it's certainly not a range or incorrect key problem - I'm right next to the router and I've tried retyping the key several times (other devices on my network connect fine).
What do you think?

Tell me if this works, adjust as neccessary:
wpa_passphrase MYSSID MYPASSPHRASE >> /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid foobard channel 6
ifconfig wlan0 up
wpa_supplicant -D wext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -dddd
dhcpd wlan0Offline
do yourself a favor... follow the instructions for network manager.... http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Networkmanager
and it will handle the wpa portion for you.

do you think its a problem if my key has '!!' in it? i dont think i can run wpa_passphrase with that in there...

Yea, it is (a problem). Is there any way I can generate a passphrase if my key has '!!' in it? Like disabling command history temporarily or something?
I would change the key but I don't have the router password atm.

Maybe as a last resort...but that's not really the arch way!
Anyways, I got the password to the router and changed the key to something more linux-friendly.
wpa_supplicant -D wext -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -ddddstops at "EAPOL: startWhen --> 0" (and eventually shows "Ignore event for foreign ifindex 2").
Any thoughts, comrade?
