I might have an application maximized and a bunch of other windows below that, and if I want to launch and application, I need to move all the windows out of the way so that I can access the desktop to launch and application. Is there any otherway to bring the applications menu up?

Add something like this to the keyboard section of your openbox' rc.xml:
<keybind key="A-w">
<action name="ShowMenu">
<menu>root-menu</menu>
</action>
</keybind>
Now the root-menu comes up at you mouse when you press Alt-W (you can change the keys).

Just bind it to key, there is an action "ShowMenu", you can look it up on openbox wiki.

I used the Openbox Configuration Manager's Margins Tab to always leave a couple of pixels at the top of the screen so I can still access the Openbox RMB & middle button menus whenever I have an app' running full screen.
I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!

Yupp, margin is the way to go. Have 1px on the sides. It also makes it possible to scroll to different desktops without using the keyboard.

Thanks xd-0 & mrcold, I hadn't twigged to that dragging/scrolling through desktop trick. It is a great way to work, with the added bonus of giving me two more places where I can access the OB menu when using a full screened app'. Very
I run a 1 pixel border all around the screen now.
