xfce icons problem

I've been playing with the look of my xfce interface with compiz-fusion, and tried out a handful of nice icons sets.  Unfortunately, in doing so something was messed up in the original interface.  This image shows what the basic panel now looks like.  Notice the normal button icon has been replaced with a green running man.  This is supposed to be the rodent icon set, but some of the icons seem to be coming from other places than what the rodent set normally has.  (Another example: the trash bin is not the normal hideous rodent trash bin.)

I've tried looking for configuration files that might need to be fixed, but can't find any.  I'd imagine such a file would be in the ~/.config directory, but I've found nothing helpful there.  I've also tried just reinstalling all of xfce4 with its dependencies, but that has changed nothing.

Does anyone know of a clean way of reverting the xfce4 desktop to its default configuration?

Edit:  I forgot to mention that now changing icon themes only changes a few icons, the terminal, thunar, trash, and "power button" icons don't change with new sets that should include icons for those items.

Re: xfce icons problem

The icons for terminal, thunar, logout look like they are from the package gnome-icon-theme.  I have them in my XFCE panel too...  It gets pulled in for some gnome packages (evince is one).

Re: xfce icons problem

Is there any way to get xfce to ignore them?  I'm looking to see if I can trim things down to remove it.  It does seem odd to me that its presence overrides xfce's icon manager, though.. is it really supposed to do that?

Re: xfce icons problem

I don't know if there is.  I had a very brief search when I first noticed this but never found anything.

Going off that knowledge, a quick google search turned up this thread:

I think I'll start from there.

Re: xfce icons problem

I've located where gnome-icon-theme got pulled in for me-- I was playing with graphical login managers, and when I tried out gdm that's what pulled in all the extra stuff.  I'm going to see if it's feasible to undo that.
