Garbage in less

Don't know if this is the right section of the forum for this, but

Lately I've been seeing stuff like

DESCRIPTION
Screen is a full-screen window manager that multiplexes a physical terâ
<80><90>

when I try to view man pages. It looks fine if I use a different pager, such as more or most.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

What terminal emulator are you using?

Re: Garbage in less

If that happens in the man pages, have a look at this thread.

EDIT: Ah, it does happen in the man pages, so definitely have a look at that thread tongue

It happened everywhere.

Thank you, that helps. I suspected it had something to do with one of those LC_ vars.

Working fine now.

EDIT: My solution was

export LC_ALL=UTF8

I could have sworn it was already set this way, but perhaps I deleted the file where it was set.
