gnome vlc right click menu

Do anyone know whats up with this?

I got a iso file with a main menu made with todisc.
If I play the iso file by right click "open with vlc" it plays fine (the menu plays too) however the menu is not working, navigation shows as empty.

If I open vlc then do Open Disc > customize "path to iso" the menu works, so do navigation.
If I cd to the directory do "vlc iso" the menu works, so do navigation.
If I right click "open with" > other application.. > use a custom command "gnome-terminal -x vlc" the menu works, so do navigation.
